To list an item in your Etsy shop:
- On Etsy.com, click the Your Account icon, then click Shop Manager. (On the Sell on Etsy app, tap More.)
- Click Listings. If you’re a new seller, click Your shop.
- Click Add a listing. On the Sell on Etsy app, tap the + (plus) icon.
Step 1: Add photos and video
To add photos to your listing, click Add a photo to add files from your computer. You can add multiple photos at once. Click Choose to upload your photos.
To change the order of your images, click on a photo and drag it to the left or right.
Guidelines for listing photos
Your images should be at least 2000 pixels wide, but the height can vary. Don’t scale down your photos to a smaller size. Buyers like to zoom in on photos to see item details. Larger images let buyers zoom in more.
We recommend you use at least five images to help shoppers get a better feel for your item.
If you’d like to crop the full-size image that appears on your public listing page, click the pencil icon under your photo.
Add variation photos
If you have variations for a listing, you can add variation photos, which you’ll connect to your variations later in the listing process.
Optional: Add video
Click Add a video if you’d like to add a short video showcasing additional details about your listing. Click Choose to upload your video.
Your video may be 5–15 seconds long and will not contain any audio once uploaded to your listing. Ideal resolution for your video is at least 1080px. You can only add one video per listing.
Step 2: Choose your thumbnail image
The first photo on a listing becomes the thumbnail for this listing. The thumbnail is the image that buyers see in your shop home, in search results, and in various other places on Etsy.
To choose your thumbnail photo:
- Drag the photo you want as your thumbnail to the first photo slot.
- Click Adjust thumbnail below your first photo. You can zoom in and change the photo’s position within the square.
- Click Save.
Step 3: Add listing details
The listing details are how your listing is categorised on Etsy, and how it can be found in Etsy search. Shoppers can filter search results by many of the details you add.
Add a title
Give your item a descriptive title. What would buyers search for to find your item? Add the most searchable words at the front of your title. Titles have a 140 character limit.
About this listing
The dropdowns under About this listing help categorize your listing as Handmade, Vintage, or a Craft Supply. Choose who made this item, what the item is, and when it was made.
Choose listing categories
Choose which category your item belongs to. This decides which category your item appears in on the Categories page.
Think about where buyers would most likely look for your specific item. For instance, if you’re selling a typewriter, you might think of it as decor, but some shoppers will want to use it to write.
Optional: Add attributes
Adding attributes like colour, occasion, or celebration will help make your items more relevant in search results. They’ll also help buyers find your items more easily.
Attributes vary by the category you chose for your item.
You can choose I offer more than one for an attribute if you want to add a variation for that attribute.
Choose your renewal option
Listings stay on Etsy for four months at a time. By default, listings automatically renew after four months. If you'd like to manually renew your listings, select the Manual option.
Step 4: Describe your listing
Next, describe your item to get found in search and to help shoppers understand your listing.
Select your item type
Select if your item is physical or digital.
Add a description
The description tells the shopper about the item, your process creating or finding it, and its dimensions. Make sure to include the size, materials used, how it was made, and any unique features.
Optional: Add your production partner
If you are creating original designs that are manufactured with outside production assistance, add your production partner to the listings they help produce.
Optional: Choose if buyers can customise this item
Check the box by Custom orders if you offer customisation for this listing. Learn more about custom orders.
Optional: Choose a section in your shop
If you have sections for different types of items in your shop, add the listing directly to one of your sections.
Optional: Add tags
Titles and tags help shoppers find your item when they search on Etsy. Use all 13 tags available to you, and be descriptive.
Some things to consider when tagging your listing:
- Your item's shape and size
- What it's used for
- How it was made
- Colour, style, materials, content, and motifs
Think like a shopper: What words would you use to search for this item?
Optional: Add materials
For most categories, using item attributes are the best way to add materials to your listings.
You can highlight the materials you use in other areas of your listing.
However, if materials aren’t available to add in your category, you can add them here.
Price per unit
Sellers in the EU will see an extra field to input a price per unit. Learn more.
Sellers in Germany will also see a field for summarising the main features of their items. Learn more.
Step 5: Add your inventory and pricing
Decide if you offer variations for this listing. If you do, skip down to variations.
If you don’t offer variations for this listing, add the price and quantity you offer for this listing.
Choose how much this item will cost buyers. This will appear in your preferred currency.
Optional: Apply shop tax rates
If you charge sales tax in your shop, you can choose whether to charge it on this particular item. Learn more about tax settings.
If you have multiples of the same item, you can increase the quantity in stock. As the items sell, the quantity in stock will go down.
The listing fee is $0.20 USD, regardless of the quantity you list. When the item sells, you will be charged a $0.20 USD auto-renewal fee for any remaining quantities. Renewing an item will also bring it to the front of your shop. Listing fees for selling in person vary. Learn more about fees for selling in person.
SKU (Stock Keeping Unit) numbers are a way for you to keep track of your inventory and quickly identify what you have in stock. They can also help you quickly locate items in your Etsy shop, studio, or storage space. Learn more about SKU numbers.
If you offer different options for a product, such as size or colour, you can offer variations of the item in your listing. You can have up to 2 variations per listing.
If your listing varies on a visible attribute, such as colour, you can add photos to show that variation. Learn how to add photos to listing variations.
You can set price, quantity, and SKU for each variation.
If your listing is for a digital item, you can’t offer variations.
If you offer personalisation for this listing, toggle Personalisation to On. Personalisation requires buyers to let you know what they want to be personalised on an item. Learn more about offering personalisation.
For digital items: Add files
If you’re listing a digital item, you need to upload files. Learn more about uploading files for digital items.
Step 6: Set up delivery
Choose how you want to deliver this item.
You can choose which delivery profile you want to use for this listing. The delivery profile you choose determines the postage cost charged to buyers, the processing time, and the delivery service.
If you haven’t set up delivery profiles yet, learn how to set up delivery profiles.
Optional: Item weight and size
If you are a seller in the United States and would like to use calculated postage for your listing, enter the item’s weight and size. Learn more about calculated postage.
Step 7: Marketing
If you are running an Etsy Ads campaign, you can choose if you want this listing to be included in the campaign.
If you’re adding a listing from the Sell on Etsy app, your listing will automatically be included in your Etsy Ads campaign. If you want to remove a new listing from your Ads campaign, you choose which listings you advertise from your Advertising page.
Step 8: Publish or save your listing
Your listing won't be saved until you click Save as Draft or Publish.
Click Preview to see how your listing will look to shoppers.
At this time, the listing preview doesn't accurately reflect price and quantity if they are set for variations of the listing. Once you publish the listing, you’ll be able to view all your variations.
Save as draft
To save your listing for later, click Save as draft. To save as a draft, you'll need to enter at least one photo, a category, a price, quantity, postage rates, a title and a description. You can always enter temporary info and then replace it before you publish.
Drafts never expire, and there is no limit on the number of drafts you may have. The "listed on" date isn't set, and you aren’t charged the listing fee until the listing is published to your shop.
You're ready to sell! Click Publish to finish your listing. The $0.20 USD listing fee will be added to your Payment account.
Your listing is now live! This listing is now available to shoppers on Etsy. Tell potential buyers about your new item and share it on Facebook or Twitter.
It may take up to 24 hours for listings to appear in Etsy search results and categories.
Questions about listings?
You can edit all parts of a listing at any time. There's no cost to edit a listing.
If you’re having trouble creating or editing listings, click an issue to learn how to resolve it:
Your image may be too small or too large
We recommend your images be at least 2000 pixels wide. You may want to use image editing software to resize your images before uploading them to Etsy.
Files bigger than 300k may time out, especially on a slower internet connection. Try using a smaller file or compressing your file to reduce its size.
If you are seeing the error message “Listings look best with photos at least 2000 pixels wide”
This error appears when the images uploaded to a listing are less than 2000 pixels wide. While this error is only a suggestion and you should be able to continue publishing, having your listing images be at least 2000 pixels wide will result in better quality images for buyers.
If you’re experiencing a different issue with image uploads, check the steps in this Help Centre article.
You can create a new variation type by clicking Create a new variation from the Add or Edit variations popup window. However, buyers won’t be able to filter their Etsy search results based on custom variations.
For example, if you want to offer a unisex size variation, you can click Create a new variation and type in “Size”.
This is normal, and you'll see the variations and price differences you added when you publish your listing. Try publishing your listing. You can see how buyers can interact with variations from the published listing.
To resolve this error, you'll either need to uncheck that you "Offer more than one" in your attributes section, or include variations for your listing.
Badges on listings are determined by a number of factors, including number of sales in a time period. Bestseller badges show on different items in search from day to day.
The Bestseller badge is added automatically. We can’t manually add the badge to listings.
Everything listed for sale on Etsy must be handmade, vintage or a craft supply. Items sold on Etsy must also follow our Prohibited Items Policy.

- Physically make or create the original designs for your items.
- Include each person involved in making your items or running your business in the About section of your shop. If you work with a production partner, you must disclose that production partner in your relevant listings.
- Use your own photographs in your listings.
Read our full Handmade Policy.
Vintage items must be at least 20 years old. Newer, vintage-style, or collectible items aren’t allowed in this category.
Craft supplies on Etsy are tools, ingredients, or materials whose primary purpose is for use in the creation of an item or special occasion. Craft supplies may be handmade, commercial, or vintage. Party supplies may also be sold as craft supplies.
If your account or listing was suspended by Etsy for a violation of Etsy’s policies, you can appeal this suspension.
