The bank account on file for Etsy Payments is the bank account where your available sales funds will be deposited, per your deposit schedule. Learn how to set up your deposit schedule.
The name on your bank account must match the name or business entity you have entered on your Legal and tax information page.
The format you must enter for your bank account varies by country. Find the bank account format for your country.
If you change your bank account, your net earnings will be available for deposit 5 days after you update your bank account. The 5-day delay doesn’t apply if you’re only verifying a bank account already on file, and not changing the bank account.
This article is intended for sellers who receive deposits directly to their bank account. If you're required to use Payoneer, you can update your bank account information in your Payoneer Payment Account. See more in Payoneer’s Support Center.
US bank accounts
US sellers update bank details by using a third party service provided by Plaid. Plaid allows you to verify your bank details with them to help ensure your deposits go to the right place. Learn about Plaid’s security measures. When you use Plaid to verify your bank account details, you agree to Plaid’s terms, including Plaid’s Privacy Policy.
When opening your shop, add your bank details on the How you’ll get paid page.
To update your bank details after your shop is open:
- On Etsy.com, select Shop Manager. If you're using the Etsy Seller app, select More.
- Choose Finances.
- Select Payment settings.
- Use Plaid’s Instant option to quickly verify your details by entering your online banking username and password, or use Plaid’s Manual option to verify your bank with a test deposit after entering your bank account and routing numbers.
- Select Add or Connect your bank with Plaid.
- On the Plaid popup, confirm we’ve got the right name on file with your bank.
- Choose Instant to log in with your online banking username and password, where this is supported by your bank.
- Search for your bank.
- Select your bank in search.
- Sign in with the same username and password you use for your online bank account.
If you’re using a mobile device, you may be asked to verify your bank by signing in to your bank’s mobile app.
If you’re able to verify with Plaid’s Instant option, this means your bank approved Plaid as a partner.
For most sellers, verifying your bank details with Plaid is instant. Some smaller banks and credit unions may require a period of 3–5 business days to verify your details. If you’re in the process of opening your shop, you’ll need to wait until this is completed before you can finish opening. We’ll notify you by email when your bank is verified.
If an error prevents you from proceeding, or if you can’t find your bank in Plaid’s search, you can still manually verify your bank account with test deposits. Choose Link with account numbers on the Plaid screen where you see an error message or no results when searching for your bank. You can also choose Manual instead of Instant on Plaid’s first screen.
You don’t need an online banking username and password to verify your bank account. You can verify with test deposits to your bank account by choosing Manual instead of Instant for How would you like to connect your bank account? when opening Plaid.
If you’re able to use an online banking username and password, verifying is usually easier. Verifying with test deposits requires waiting for the deposits to arrive in your bank account and manually entering them on Etsy via Plaid.
How to manually verify your bank with test deposits
As an alternative to entering your username and password for online banking, you can verify your bank account with your bank account routing and account numbers. Plaid will send a deposit of $0.01 USD to your bank account.
The description for the deposit on your online banking statement will contain a 3-letter code, beginning with a # sign.
Once you see the deposit in your bank account, go back to Plaid in your payment settings to enter the 3-letter code. You don’t need to enter the # sign.
If you don’t have access to online banking, please call your bank directly for help identifying the required 3-letter code.
Plaid shows how the 3-letter code could appear on your statement
It may take as little as 1 business day for the deposit to appear, although most sellers will receive it within 3-5 business days.
- In your Payment settings, select Add or Connect your bank with Plaid, and choose Manual for How would you like to link your bank account?
- Select Continue.
- Enter your routing number and select Continue.
- Enter your bank account number and select Continue.
- Choose whether the account is Personal or Business and Continue.
- Enter your name and Continue.
- Select Checking or Savings and Continue.
- Choose Authorise.
- Begin checking your online bank account after 1 business day, so your bank has time to receive the deposit. Most will receive the $0.01 USD deposit within 5 business days.
- Once you see the deposit in your bank account, go back to the How you’ll get paid page.
- Choose Enter deposit code.
- Enter the 3-letter code and select Continue.
You must complete the verification within 30 days or your shop will be suspended until you verify.
After several failed attempts to enter and verify your bank details, your shop may be suspended, and you’ll be required to contact Etsy Support for further help. These important security measures help protect your financial information.
Etsy is required to ensure that shop owners are the recipients of deposits from sales. After researching many ways to verify bank details, Etsy found that Plaid offers Etsy shops a quick and secure way to verify. Plaid is a leader in the industry and their current security measures are trusted by over 6,000 companies who use their services to safely connect financial accounts. Also, Plaid's information security programme is designed to meet or exceed industry standards and is certified in internationally recognised security standards.
For sellers who decline to use an online banking username and password to instantly verify, Plaid offers a manual solution. We are committed to the privacy and security of members. Etsy uses Plaid for no other purpose than bank verification.
If there is a change to your bank account, Etsy holds your funds for 5 days from becoming available for deposit. This helps us protect your funds in case the bank account wasn’t updated by you. We want the funds to go to your bank account and not a bad actor’s. This 5-day hold doesn’t apply if you're verifying an account number already on file.
Bank accounts outside the US
If you're using a bank account outside the US, you can start bank account verification after your first sale. Be sure to start bank account verification within 30 days of your first sale to avoid your shop being suspended. You’re required to complete the verification of your bank details within 60 days or your shop will be suspended.
If you have an active shop, you can update your bank details at any time in your Payment settings.
- On Etsy.com, select Shop Manager. If you're using the Etsy Seller app, select More.
- Choose Finances.
- Select Payment settings.
- Choose Edit next to Bank details. You may need to confirm your current bank details on file.
- Enter your new bank details.
- Select Save.
Verifying your bank account
After updating your bank details, you must verify your bank account before you can receive any funds from your sales.
My bank account is in a different currency from my Payment account
If your bank account is in a different currency from your Payment account currency, you can upload a bank statement for verification. We’ll review it within 5 business days.
- On Etsy.com select Shop Manager.
- Choose Finances.
- Select Payment settings.
- Choose Edit next to Bank details. You may need to confirm your current bank details on file.
- Under Bank country & currency, choose My bank account is in another currency. Note that we can only pay out in your Payment account currency..
- Select Save and upload bank statement.
- Drag and drop or select a file of your bank statement.
- Choose Submit.
- Select Save.
We’ll issue deposits in your Payment account currency, even if your bank currency is different.
My bank account is in the same currency as my Payment account
If your bank account is in the same currency as your Payment account, you’ll receive a small deposit from Etsy within 5 business days after you update your bank account or begin verifying your bank account after your first sale. The deposit will be processed by our third party payment partners, such as Adyen or Envoy via WorldPay.
Once you receive the small deposit in your bank account, enter the amount in your Payment settings on Etsy.
How do I get a test deposit after my first sale?
Be sure to send the small deposit your bank details within 30 days of your first sale to avoid your shop being suspended.
- On Etsy.com go to Shop Manager. If you're using the Etsy Seller app, select More.
- Go to Finances.
- Choose Payment settings.
- Choose Verify Account next to Bank details.
- Select Save & send small deposit.
How do I verify my bank account after I get the small deposit?
Wait until you see the small deposit in your bank account. Then, return to your Payment account on Etsy.
- On Etsy.com go to Shop Manager. If you're using the Etsy Seller app, select More.
- Go to Finances.
- Go to Payment account.
- Select Verify bank.
- Enter the amount of the small deposit from Etsy you see in your bank account. The deposit may appear as from WorldPay, Envoy, or Adyen.
- Select Verify bank.
You will also see a Verify account button in Shop Manager under the Shop advisor section. This will link directly to verifying your bank account.
You may be asked to upload a bank statement for verification if you enter the wrong deposit amount multiple times. We’ll review your bank statement within approximately 5 business days.
Troubleshooting
- Requiring you enter your former account number is an important security measure. It helps us protect you and the entire Etsy marketplace from fraud. Support agents are unable to waive this requirement.
- Look for an old cheque. Your bank account number is the second number in from the bottom left of a cheque. Learn about account numbers on Plaid’s site.
- Contact your bank. Your bank should be able to give you your former account number, even if the account is closed.
- If you run out of options for finding your old bank account, you'll need to create a new shop on another Etsy account.
- If your bank doesn’t appear in Plaid, you can use your bank account routing and account numbers to verify.
- Choose Link with account numbers in Plaid. Plaid will deposit $0.01 USD to your bank account. The deposit’s description on your online bank statement will include a 3-letter code.
- When entering your amount, choose Connect via Plaid, not Edit.
It’s possible that there was a momentary blip in the connection. Please wait a few minutes and try again.
If you still have trouble, try these steps:
- Double check that you’re using the correct sign in credentials or bank account information.
- Make sure you allow third party integrations with your bank account (most banks have apps where you can adjust these settings). If you’re unsure how to enable this, please contact your bank for more information.
- Try verifying again after you access an internet connection from a different location. Make sure you’re not using a VPN to access the internet, as it may interfere with your ability to verify.
- If these steps don’t help, please contact Etsy Support for more assistance and provide us with detailed information about any error messages and the exact steps you’ve taken to verify.
- You must return later, even if you’ve received a test deposit.
- Check back the next day. You’ll be able to enter your deposit amount on Etsy soon.
- Etsy Support isn’t able to remove the Come back later message.
- Enter the small deposit exactly as it appears on your statement.
- Be sure you’re entering the most recent deposit. You might have received multiple test deposits if you tried updating your bank account more than once. All earlier deposits will be void.
- It can take up to 5 business days after updating your bank account to receive the small deposit.
- If you update your bank account on Etsy and check your statement soon after, you may see an outdated small deposit. Wait until you get the new small deposit.
- Wait 5 business days. If you don’t see the deposit after 5 business days, try sending another deposit. Go back to Payment settings and again choose Edit next to Bank details.
- US sellers:
- You can try sending a deposit up to 3 times. If you still don’t get a deposit, contact Etsy Support.
- Sellers outside the US:
- Check for a deposit with the following descriptors: “Etsy", "Adyen", "WorldPay", "Envoy", "Stichting Custodia(n)", or "Etsy Ireland Limited".
- If resending the deposit didn't work, you'll then see an option to upload your bank statement at the top of the page or after choosing Edit next to Bank details again. Choose Upload document, provide your bank details, and choose Save and verify account. We’ll review your bank statement within a few business days.
- US sellers:
- If you reach the maximum attempts to verify, or don’t verify your bank account within 60 days of updating your bank details, your shop will be suspended.
- If you reach the maximum attempts to verify, you will be asked to upload a bank statement to complete the verification before we can reinstate your shop. We’ll review your bank statement within approximately 5 business days.
- If you’ve located your small deposit and have the option to verify, do so on Etsy.com and not the Etsy Seller app before reaching out to Etsy Support for help reinstating your shop.
- It’s not possible to verify on the Etsy Seller app while suspended.
My new bank account is in a different country
If you’re in the eurozone
If your current bank account is located in the eurozone of Europe and you’re moving to another country within the eurozone, contact us for help updating your bank to the new country.
If you’re anywhere else
It’s not possible to change a bank account to another country.
The best option is to open a new Etsy shop. With your new shop, you can set your bank account to one in your current country. However, you can’t merge Etsy accounts or transfer information from your original shop to your new shop. This means that shop data, including listings, reviews, or sales numbers, can't be moved over to a new account. You can include the URL for your original shop in your new shop to display your reviews and sales numbers to shoppers.
You can update the bank account for your shop in your Shop Manager, unless you’re required to use a Payoneer Payment Account to accept Etsy deposits. If you use Payoneer, visit Payoneer’s support centre and contact Payoneer for help updating your bank account.
To add your updated bank information, you'll first need to confirm the bank account details you previously had on file.
If you’re having trouble confirming your previous bank details, we suggest getting in touch with your bank directly. While this might be an old or outdated account, the bank should keep this information on file for 7 years. By getting in touch with your bank, you’ll generally get your previous bank details quickly.
If you still need help, you’ll need to provide answers to verification questions. Click I still need help and answer the verification questions in the email form. For security reasons, please do not provide us with your full bank details.
Sellers in the US
If you’re signing up to sell, you can add your bank information under How You’ll Get Paid. Otherwise, you can update your bank account in your Payment settings with Plaid. Learn more.
When signing up, you’ll be required to verify your bank account with Plaid before you can open your shop. If you’ve already been selling, you’ll be required to verify your bank details with Plaid within 30 days or your shop will be suspended until you verify.
Sellers outside the US
If your bank account is located outside the US you will need to verify your bank account before you can receive any funds from your sales.
You can add your bank account after your first sale. Be sure to add your bank details within 30 days of your first sale to avoid your shop being suspended.
You’re required to verify your bank details within 60 days or your shop will be suspended.
My bank account is in a different currency from my Payment account
If your bank account is in a different currency from your Payment account currency, you can upload a bank statement for verification. We’ll review it within 5 business days. We’ll issue deposits in your Payment account currency, even if your bank currency is different.
To verify your bank account when your Payment account currency is different:
- On Etsy.com select Shop Manager. On the Etsy Seller app, select More.

- Under Bank country & currency, choose My bank account is in another currency. Note that we can only pay out in your Payment account currency..
- Select Save and upload bank statement.
- Drag and drop or select a file of your bank statement.
- Choose Submit.
- Select Save.

- If you reach the maximum attempts to verify, or don’t verify your bank account within 60 days of updating your bank details, your shop will be suspended and you may need to contact Etsy.
- If you’ve located your small deposit and have the option to verify, do so on Etsy.com and not the Etsy Seller app before reaching out to Etsy Support for help reinstating your shop.
- It’s not possible to verify on the Etsy Seller app while suspended.
To update your bank account:
- On Etsy.com, select Shop Manager. On the Etsy Seller app, select More.
- Select Finances.
- Select Payment settings.
- Select Update next to Bank details. You will need to confirm your current bank information on file.
- Enter your new bank account information.
- If you’re in the US, you’ll need to connect your bank with Plaid during this step.
- Select Save.
- Etsy will send a test deposit to your new bank account. In a few days, you’ll be able to verify this in your Shop Manager.
- US sellers using Plaid’s auto-verification options can ignore this step.
If you're required to accept deposits from Etsy to a Payoneer account, you’ll update your bank account on Payoneer. Learn more on Payoneer’s site and contact Payoneer if you need help.
If you still need help, you’ll need to provide answers to verification questions. Select I still need help and answer the verification questions in the email form. For security reasons, please do not provide us with your full bank details.

If you run out of options for finding your old bank account, you'll need to create a new shop on another Etsy account.
If your bank doesn’t appear in Plaid, you can use your bank account routing and account numbers to verify. Choose Link with account numbers in Plaid. Plaid will send a deposit of $0.01 USD to your bank account. The deposit's description on your online bank account will contain a 3-letter code after a # sign. Enter the 3-letter code in your Etsy Payment settings. Choose Connect via Plaid, not Edit.
Most sellers will receive the deposit within 5 days. Contact your bank for help identifying the code if you don't have access to online banking.

You may have received an email from noreply@etsy.com, mail@etsy.com, or etsy@mail.etsy.com asking you to verify your bank account using Plaid, a third-party service. Learn more about using Plaid to update and verify your bank account.
If your shop isn't open yet, you can do this on the How You’ll Get Paid page. If your shop is already open, go to your Payment settings.
Sellers outside the US
If you see Come Back Later instead of the button to verify your test deposit, please try again in the next day or two. We’re unable to remove the Come Back Later message.
If Etsy says the amount you’re entering is wrong, make sure you choose the button in the banner (not the Edit button) and enter it exactly as it appears on your statement. If your bank account is in a different currency than your shop’s Payment account, contact your bank to ask for the amount before the currency conversion.
If you’ve tried updating your bank more than once, you’ll get multiple test deposits. Be sure to enter the most recent deposit, as each new attempt voids the prior deposit. If you just tried updating your bank account, wait up to 5 business days for the new deposit to reach your statement.
If you haven’t received the test deposit, wait 5 business days and then try updating your bank account again. If it still doesn’t appear after another 5 days, confirm your details with your bank or add a different bank account.
If your shop is suspended, but you can verify your test deposit, do so on Etsy.com before asking for help reinstating your shop.

When you open an Etsy shop, you select your bank country. This becomes the country for your shop, and for the bank account for your shop. You must use a bank account from the country on file with your shop.
Unless you’re moving within the eurozone, we can’t update your bank account country.
Instead, you have 2 options:
- You can continue to use your current bank account on file if you still have access to do so
- You can open a new shop and select the bank country that your bank account is held in
If your bank country is currently within the eurozone, you receive Euro payouts, and you want to update to another bank account held within the eurozone, we can update your bank country for you.
We do not consider UK bank accounts within the Eurozone as we send deposits to UK bank accounts in GBP.
Choose I still need help and include the country you’re moving to in your message. For security reasons, please do not provide us with your full bank details.
