Search engine optimisation is the process of improving a website’s visibility in search engine results, like Google, Bing, and Yahoo. It’s a good idea to optimise content on various pages of your website to stay relevant for different types of searches.
One way you can optimise your site for external search is by editing your listing titles and descriptions. If you have a listing optimised for Etsy.com, it may be a good idea to adjust the content so it’s more readable for other search engines. To learn more about optimising your website’s SEO, check out this guide.
To edit titles and descriptions for listings that appear on both Etsy and Pattern:
- Go to Shop Manager > Listings.
- Select the listing you want to edit and scroll down to Pattern listing details.
- Check the box next to Edit my title and description for my Pattern site.
- Make changes to the sections you want to change and then click Publish.
Pattern also also provides XML sitemaps for your website, which can help with your SEO. Sitemaps are like a table of contents for your site - they help external search engines understand the organisation and structure of your site. This helps search engines crawl the different pages within your site more easily. Any time you add new pages to your website, like blog content, the sitemap will automatically update to include this new content.
To access your sitemap, add “/robots.txt” to the end of your domain name and load it in your browser. This will display the URLs where you can access your listings, pages, and blog sitemaps.
If you’ve registered a custom domain for your Pattern site, you can also submit your site through Google Webmasters to request an index of your site.
Note: Having a Pattern site does not, in any way, impact your placement in Etsy search.
