How to Set Up Google Analytics for Pattern

Google Analytics is a third-party tracking tool that shows the volume of traffic to your website from different traffic sources. Google allows you to sign up for a similar programme for your site called Web Analytics. This is a free service available to all Etsy sellers, but it requires a separate account with Google.

You can also track your website's performance by reviewing your Stats in the Shop Manager. Learn more.

Etsy sellers have the ability to connect their Etsy shops and Pattern sites using Google’s legacy Universal Analytics service. Google’s newer analytics service, Google Analytics 4, is not currently compatible with our platform.

You’ll have the option to set up a Universal Analytics code alongside the new Google Analytics 4 code. Learn more about the difference between these codes.

Setting up a website profile

Create a Google account if you don’t have one already. Once you have a Google account, you can set up your website profile:

  1. Sign in to your Google account and select Analytics Settings.
  2. Select Enter New Profile.
  3. Enter the URL for your Pattern site in the Website URL field (YourEtsyShopName.patternbyetsy.com).
  4. If you have a custom domain connected to your website, you can enter it in the Account Name field (yourdomain.com).
  5. Select Continue when you arrive at the page titled Analytics: Tracking Instructions.
  6. On your account overview page, locate the tracking code displayed next to your Pattern site’s address. It will appear in this format: UA-XXXXXXX-X.
  7. Record or copy your new tracking ID.

Entering your tracking ID

  1. Sign in to Etsy.com and go to the Settings tab of the Pattern Dashboard.
  2. In the Google Analytics field, enter your Google Analytics tracking ID in this format: UA-XXXXXXX-X
  3. Select Publish.

To view your Analytics, you must sign in to your Google Analytics account. Since Google Analytics works on a delay, you may not see data in your reports for up to 24 hours.

Google may instruct you to paste a javascript code. This is not necessary to set up analytics for your Pattern site.
