Unrecognised Credit Card Charges

If you see unrecognised charges from Etsy on your bank statement, it can be due to a number of things. Please review these scenarios:

I see Etsy on my statement instead of the seller I purchased from

Etsy is a marketplace. When you place an order on Etsy from one of our sellers, Etsy is the merchant of record which means you will see a transaction from Etsy on your statement. Depending on your location at time of purchase, transactions are processed in one of our two locations, Brooklyn, NY or Dublin, IE.

A family member purchased something on Etsy

Often times we find unrecognised charges may have been placed by a family member, friend or co-worker who may have had your permission to use your card. We suggest reaching out to any family members, friends or co-workers who may have had access to your financial information or to your device.

How to contact Etsy about the charge

If you are still unable to confirm the charge, please reach out to us directly at verification@etsy.com, or scroll to the bottom of this page and click Contact support. Be sure to put "Attn: Risk" in the subject line and include the following information that will help us locate the charge:

  • The name of the cardholder and the billing address associated with the card
  • The last 4 numbers of the credit card associated with the charge
  • The exact amount and date of the charge or charges

Once we receive this information, an agent will look into the charge and reply to your email in the next 24 hours.
