Etsy Payments Ireland Limited (EPIL) is responsible for the payment of funds owed to EPIL Sellers through online sales made on the Etsy marketplace. EPIL processes payments for sellers residing in the European Economic Area (EEA).
As an EPIL Seller, EPIL provides you with the ability to receive the proceeds of your sales on the Etsy marketplace. Etsy Ireland UC will separately be providing you with a range of Marketplace services under its general Terms of Use.
EPIL is regulated by the Central Bank of Ireland.
Starting 24 March, and rolling out through early 2027, certain sellers based in the European Economic Area (EEA) will be asked to review and confirm their shop information in Shop Manager and accept Etsy Payments Ireland Limited (EPIL) terms and conditions. If you’re an EEA seller, you’ll receive an email from mail@etsy.com with specific instructions when it's time for you to confirm your information.
How do I know if I’m an EPIL Seller?
You’re classified as an EPIL Seller if you:
- Are a seller on the Etsy marketplace with a country of residence based in the European Economic Area, and
- Are at least 18 years old and have registered with and been approved by Etsy Ireland UC for an online Shop on the Etsy marketplace and
- Have successfully completed the EPIL onboarding process including accepting the Etsy Payments Ireland Limited Terms and Conditions
At this time, sellers residing in the EEA cannot add a bank account in Ukraine, Japan, China, Chile, Peru, India, Argentina or Thailand.
How are buyer refunds managed through EPIL?
Consistent with the Etsy Seller Policy, refunds or adjustments paid to buyers for payments made through EPIL and that fall outside of Etsy's Purchase Protection Programme for Sellers will be deducted from your Payment Account balance for a period of 180 days after the purchase was made.
If there are insufficient funds to cover the amount of the refund, the balance will be charged to your card on file or added to your Account balance.
Etsy reserves the right to refund buyers for unfulfilled orders and recoup refunded amounts from you if your account has been suspended in accordance with our Terms of Use.
Fully refunded transactions may be eligible for cancellation in accordance with Etsy’s Cancellation Policy.
Are EPIL Sellers subject to cardholder charges?
Your bank or card provider may charge additional fees (including cross-border fees) for transactions that you make on the Marketplace. These fees are not charged by EPIL and are at the discretion of your bank. Please contact your bank for further details.
How do I file a complaint about EPIL services?
If you have a complaint about a service provided by EPIL, you can request a complaints form by Contacting Etsy Support. An Etsy Support Agent will respond to your complaint.
If you are unsatisfied with the outcome, you may refer your complaint to the Financial Services and Pensions Ombudsman. You can do this by selecting Making a Complaint on the FSPO website and completing the complaint form. You’ll need to submit EPIL’s final response letter together with details of your complaint.
What happens if I don’t accept the EPIL Terms and Conditions?
To continue receiving payments for sales made on Etsy, sellers residing in the European Economic Area (EEA) must accept the Etsy Payments Ireland Limited (EPIL) Terms and Conditions. If you choose not to accept the EPIL Terms and Conditions:
- You will no longer be able to receive payments through Etsy Payments.
- You will not be able to continue selling on Etsy.
- Etsy may take steps to restrict or close your shop in accordance with our Terms of Use, and any remaining balance in your Payment Account will be paid out to your bank account on file.
Learn more about closing your shop.
To reopen your shop and resume selling, you must accept the EPIL Terms and complete the required onboarding steps. Additional impacts to your account (such as access to open orders, listings, cases, or other account features) may apply depending on your account status at the time services are discontinued.
What happens if I move out of the EEA?
If you are no longer based in the European Economic Area (EEA), the EPIL terms will no longer apply to you. Your account balance will automatically be transferred to the appropriate Etsy entity, depending on your new address, and no action is required from you.
See Section 11 of the EPIL Terms and Conditions and the Etsy Payments Policy for more information.
