How to Redeem Coupons and Make Offers On Items

Many sellers on Etsy offer discounts like coupons, or allowing buyers to make offers for a lower price on their items.

To redeem a coupon or make an offer on an item, you must be signed in to your account. If you don’t have an account, create one first.

How do I redeem a coupon code?

If you have a coupon code provided by a shop or by Etsy, you can apply this when you check out.

Coupons come in two categories:

  • Shop coupons are set up by sellers as part of their marketing campaigns. These only apply to the individual shop offering the coupon.

  • Etsy Coupons are funded by Etsy and sent to certain buyers. These may include discounts like a certain percentage off of your next purchase.

Both types of coupons may have specific requirements and expiration dates, so make sure to check before attempting to apply them at checkout.

To redeem a shop or Etsy coupon:

  1. On Etsy.com, go to your Cart.
  2. Scroll down and select Apply coupon code.
  3. Type or paste the code into the box.
  4. Select Apply.

If you have a shop coupon code

Your coupon code applies only to the shop that offers that coupon. Shops are run by individual sellers, who manage their own promotions.

If the coupon code didn’t work, check:

  • That you’re applying the code to the right shop. Each shop can run their own promotions, with different coupon codes.
  • That your order meets the requirements of the coupon code. For example, if the coupon code is for free shipping on orders of $25 or more, make sure that you’re spending $25 at that shop.
  • That the coupon hasn’t expired. Sellers generally have information about coupons and sales on their shop homepage. If you’re not sure, contact the seller.

Notes:

  • Some offers may automatically apply to your order. If an offer is automatically applied, you’ll see it in your Cart next to the item or shop it applies to.
  • Some sellers may offer multiple offers for the same item. You can apply a maximum of two offers to an eligible item, but one of the offers must be for free shipping.
  • If a shop is running multiple promotions at the time of your purchase, we'll automatically apply the best offer to your order.

If you have an Etsy Coupon code

Your Etsy Coupon can be used along with a shop coupon or a shop sale. Your Etsy Coupon can also be used when you’re paying for the order with a gift card. Etsy Coupons can often be used on items from more than one shop, but can't be used on certain shops that don't accept credit cards as payment.

If the coupon code didn’t work, check:

  • That your order meets the requirements of the coupon code. For example, if the coupon code is for 10% off on orders of $25 or more, make sure that you’re spending at least $25.
  • That the coupon code is not expired. The coupon code’s expiration date is mentioned in the coupon email.
  • That your currency matches the currency that the offer was issued in. If the offer is for $5 USD off, make sure you’re browsing in USD currency.
  • That you haven’t already used your offer on a prior order. Right now, Etsy Coupons can only be applied once per user.
  • Make sure you are signed in to your account. You can create an account if you don’t already have one.

How do I make an offer on an item?

If a seller allows it, you may be able to make an offer for a lower price on items they sell. It is up to the seller which of their items they’ll consider offers on, how much of a discount they’ll consider on offers, or if they even choose to let offers be made at all.

To make an offer on an item:

  1. Go to the seller’s listing you’re interested in. Select any variations like size or color, and any personalization options you want, if offered.
  2. Select Make an offer. This button won’t be available if the seller doesn’t accept offers on that listing.
  3. Select the quantity of the item you want from the dropdown menu.
  4. In Your offer, enter how much you’re looking to buy the item(s) for.
  5. Select Send offer. Once you select this, your offer is the price you agree to pay if you choose to purchase the item.
  6. If the offer you’ve submitted is below the seller’s threshold of what they’ll accept for the item, you’ll be able to select Make another offer. If you’re no longer interested, select No thanks
  7. If successful, you’ll see a message saying that your offer was sent to the seller. Check for their response in your Messages. They may also reach out to you to discuss your offer further and negotiate on a price.
  8. If the seller accepts your offer, you have 48 hours to select Complete purchase

Making an offer on an item does not make you obligated to purchase it, even if the seller accepts your offer. It also does not reserve the item for you, and other buyers can still purchase it until the moment you check out with your accepted offer.
