Note: These instructions are only for members who filled out their shop policies before March 2016 and haven't switched over to the newer shop policies template. For all other members, you must use the newer shop policies template. Please refer to this Help article for instructions.
Your shop policies provide a brief description of what your buyers should expect when purchasing from your shop. Here, you can outline your policies for payment, shipping, and returns/exchanges.
Managing your shop policies
From here, fill out the following fields:
- Returns and exchanges
- Welcome Message
- Payment Policy
- Shipping Policy
- Additional Information
- Private receipt info
Returns and exchanges policy template
To make your refund policy more clear to buyers, use the optional refund policy template. Click the toggle icons to specify your shop’s policies on returns, exchanges, and cancellations.
The Returns and exchange details section allows you to inform buyers of any other restrictions or terms for returns and exchanges (such as who pays for return shipping). If you have an existing refund policy, we’ll automatically include that information here.
Note: Information in the section must not contradict any of Etsy's site-wide policies or your own shop policies.
The refund policy template is optional. You can switch back to a custom return policy at any time by doing the following:
- Go to Shop Manager and click the pencil icon next to your shop name under Sales channels.
- Scroll down to the Shop policies section and click the pencil icon.
- Select Turn off templated return policies.
- Enter your custom return policies in the Returns and exchange details field.
This section lets you show specific information about yourself and your shop to shoppers who have set their location to a country in the European Union , such as your name and business address, and VAT number (when applicable). Etsy will not use this information to contact you.
If you’re attempting to add your VAT ID, please go to Shop Manager > Finances > VAT ID .For sellers in the UK, after they add their VAT ID, it will automatically display within Seller Details below your Shop Policies.
EU buyer protection laws require Etsy to display this information. Only buyers who have set their location to an EU country will see this section.

Private receipt information
Some countries require that additional information be provided to buyers who purchase from your shop. The information provided here is private and visible only to buyers who purchase from your shop. It will not display on the shop policies page.
