Difference Between Etsy Stats and Google Analytics

You will likely see different numbers across Etsy Stats and Google Analytics.

Etsy uses a different technique than Google Analytics to collect data, and we do not sample data.

Google Analytics samples data, which means they record a subset of the data and use statistical analysis to estimate the actual numbers.

When views are counted

There are a few cases when Etsy does not count a view, but Google Analytics will.

Specifically, Etsy does not count it when you view your own listing when you’re signed in, or if someone rapidly refreshes a page. Google Analytics will generally count these views.

Etsy does track views when javascript is disabled, and Google Analytics does not.

Traffic sources

With traffic sources, Etsy Stats shows how people found your shop, and Google Analytics shows how people found Etsy.

Someone searches for "Etsy" on Yahoo, clicks through to the Etsy homepage, does a search on Etsy, and then clicks through to your listing:

  • Google Analytics records the traffic source as Yahoo.

  • Stats records the traffic source as an Etsy search.
