Domain Provider Guide: DNSimple

Important: You must set both A records and CNAME records in order for your domain to properly connect to your Pattern site.

First, edit your A record information for your root domain.

  1. Go to https://dnsimple.com/ to log in to your account.
  2. Once logged in, you should be automatically directed to your Domains page.
  3. Locate the domain you’d like to connect to your Pattern site and click on the Records button on the right.
  4. Once in the Record Editor, click the pencil icon to edit your Type A record.
  5. Leave the Name field blank.
  6. In the Address field, type: 130.211.40.170
  7. Leave the TTL as is, or select 1 minute for faster loading.
  8. Click Update Record.

Next, edit your CNAME records for your subdomain.

  1. From within your domain Record Editor, click the pencil icon to edit your Type CNAME record.
  2. In the Name field, type www
  3. In the Alias For field, type patternbyetsy.com
  4. Leave the TTL as is, or select 1 minute for faster loading.
  5. Click Update Record.
  6. If you’d like to set up multiple subdomains, click the Add Record button at the top of the page and select CNAME from the dropdown.
  7. Follow the steps above, typing your desired subdomains (for example, “shop” or “store”) into the Name field each time.

Once you have set up all of your desired records, you will need to visit the Domains section of your Pattern Dashboard to connect your domain by typing "www.YourDomain.com" into the field next to Own a domain?

It can take up to 48 hours for your domain to connect.

If you're still having trouble connecting your domain, check for any preexisting A records or CNAME records and delete them. Conflicting records can cause your domain connection to fail.

If you continue to have trouble, contact your domain provider’s support team and provide them with the following information:

  • You would like to set up one A record for your root domain which points to 130.211.40.170.
  • You would also like to set up a CNAME record (www.) for your subdomain that points to your Etsy-hosted domain, which is patternbyetsy.com

Note: Never give your Etsy username or password to a third party.

Only you are authorized to instruct your domain provider to connect your domain to your Pattern site and Etsy cannot interact directly with your domain provider under any circumstances.
