- Check your default listing language.
- Add other languages that you’re fluent in.
How to check your default language and add languages
Once you add a language to your shop, you’ll be able to manually translate your shop and listings.
If you need to change your default language, learn how.
- Sign in to Etsy.com and go to Shop Manager, then Settings.
- Go to Languages and translations.
- Select Manage languages. In the window that appears, you’ll see your default language at the top.
- Toggle on additional languages that you are fluent in.
- Select Save changes.
How to manually translate your listings
You can manually translate a listing’s title, description, and tags (tags are optional). The categories and attributes you select for your listing will translate automatically.
- Sign in to Etsy.com and go to Shop Manager, then Listings.
- Select the listing you want to translate.
- Scroll down to the Translations section, where you can manually add your translations.
Be sure to list in the correct language fields. For example, French should be in the French fields and English in the English fields.
How to manually translate your shop
For your shop, we encourage you to translate:
- Shop title
- Shop announcement
- Message to buyers
- Shop sections
- About your shop
- Shop policies
- Sign in to Etsy.com and go to Shop Manager, then Settings.
- Go to Languages and translations.
- Add translations to each of the shop areas mentioned above.
- Select Save changes.
How automatic translations work
Listings are also automatically translated. Shoppers searching the site will see listings in their preferred language. Any manual translations you provide will override automatic translations.
- Sign in to Etsy.com and go to Shop Manager.
- Go to Settings and then Options.
- Scroll down to the Automatic Listing Translation box and select Disabled.
- Select Save.
