How to Offer Personalized Listings

On Etsy, you can help your buyers personalize items by turning on Personalization from the listing page. Personalization helps buyers let you know what they want to be personalized on an item, like an engraving or pattern.

You can also offer listing variations, like color or size, or custom listings.

How to enable personalization for listings

You can enable personalization on items in your shop. Personalization requires buyers to let you know what they want to be personalized on an item.

To enable personalization for a listing:

  1. Sign in to Etsy.com and go to Shop Manager.
  2. Choose Listings.
  3. Select a listing you want to add personalization to.
  4. Under Inventory and pricing, toggle Personalization to On.
  5. Next to Instructions for buyers, add text to help the buyer know what details to add, like the engraving or pattern they want personalized for this item.
  6. Check Personalization is optional if personalization isn’t required for this listing.
  7. Choose Apply.

To enable personalization for multiple listings:

  1. Sign in to Etsy.com and go to Shop Manager.
  2. Go to Listings.
  3. Check the box for the listings you want to add personalization to.
  4. Choose Editing options.
  5. Choose Edit personalization.
  6. Toggle Personalization to On.
  7. Next to Instructions for buyers, add text to help the buyer know what details to add, like the engraving or pattern they want personalized for this item. These instructions will be the same for each listing you selected.
  8. Check Personalization is optional if personalization isn’t required for these listings.
  9. Choose Apply.

For the buyer, the required personalization field appears on the listing card with the other options for that listing, like color or quantity.

When a buyer requests a personalized item, you see the personalization request on the Orders page and in the email you receive about their order.
