Connect your Square account to your Etsy shop for the first time and make $300 in sales from your Etsy inventory between November 1 and December 31 to earn a $10 Etsy account credit.
This offer is only available for the first 15,000 qualifying sellers in the US, UK, Canada, and Australia who meet both of the above requirements by December 31st. See terms and conditions.
By connecting your Etsy shop with a Square account, you can process payments from buyers in person, and keep an up-to-date inventory of your current online listings. This optional add-on can give you more flexibility in how you connect with buyers and where you choose to conduct your sales.
Setting up a Square account is free, with sales fees being processed by Square on a by-transaction basis. Sellers in the US*, UK, Canada, or Australia can sign up for Square and link it to their Etsy shop and inventory.
How to start using Square
You can get started with Square by going to the Sales Channels area of your Shop Manager, and selecting Sell in person. You can then sign up for a new Square account or link an existing account to your Etsy shop.
How to sync your listings
After you’ve created or logged in to your account, you can sync your Etsy inventory to your Square account. This will cause any items sold in-person to be reflected in your online inventory.
Syncing from Square to Etsy is not supported at this time. If you add or edit your items on Square, these changes won't be reflected on Etsy.
To sync your listings:
- Go to the Square Sales Channel page in your Shop Manager.
- Choose Sync your Listings.
This can also be done from your Listings page using the Sync to Square button.
Your items will now be available in the Square Point of Sale - POS App (available in the iOS App Store or Google Play) for in-person sales.
The time it takes to sync your shop’s listings to the Square POS app will vary from customer to customer, and depends on a number of different factors, including:
- The number of listings that are being synced
- The quality of the internet connection,
- The amount of listing metadata (including listing images and number of variants)
While performance will vary for each customer, the process may take up to one minute per each 300 listings synced.
Square sync limitations
Physical vs Digital Listings: Square only works with physical item listings. Sellers who only have digital listings in their Etsy shops will receive the message, ‘Sync has unfortunately failed. Try Again.’ when attempting to sync through Square.
Item Variations: There is a limit of 250 variations with the Square API. If you exceed this limit, you’ll also see the above error message. To successfully sync with Square, decrease the number of variations and try again.
How to change your shop location
When you sign up or sign in to Square and connect to your Etsy account, you’ll be prompted to select or create a location. This allows Square to sync the in-person sales from a specific address to your Etsy shop.
You can add or edit new locations through Square’s account dashboard. Businesses who have multiple sales locations will need to select which one will be linked to their Etsy shop.
To change your location at any time:
- Go to the Square Sales Channel page in your Shop Manager.
- Find Choose your location.
- Select the location you want to use for your Etsy account.
How to disconnect from Square
If you want to connect a different Square account to your Etsy shop, you will need to disconnect your account first.
- Go to the Square Sales Channel page.
- Select disconnect my shop from Square.
How Square's fees are calculated
Etsy doesn't charge an additional fee for items sold through Square via inventory sync, and will have the same $0.20 auto-renewal listing fee as online listings sold through Etsy.
When you sell an item via Square that is not synced with your shop listings, Etsy will charge $0.20 USD per transaction. This will show up on your Etsy bill as a 'Square manual' fee.
Square does charge additional processing fees that vary by the type of sale. Learn more in Square Fees and Payments FAQs.
