Changes to Etsy Policies: Effective October 2020

We’re making updates to our policies, including our Seller and Etsy Payments policies. These updates will go into effect on October 16, 2020. With these new changes:

  • You’ll no longer be able to accept manual payment methods through the “Other” or “Payment by Mail” payment options in your Etsy shop.
  • Etsy’s Seller Policies are refreshed and reorganized so they are more user-friendly.

We’ve also made some updates to our Terms of Use, Privacy Policy, and more. Learn more about Etsy’s policies.

You’ll also receive an email from Etsy about these changes.

Why can’t I accept manual payment methods in my shop?

Since manual payment methods (“Other” and “Payment by mail”) happen off of Etsy, they are less reliable because we have no means of monitoring payments or providing support.

If you have Etsy Payments in your shop, your buyers will still have many different payment methods to choose from.

If you live in a country where Etsy Payments is not yet available, you can use your own PayPal account to accept payments.
