I Received a Security Code Email from Etsy

Quick answer: If you receive a security code email, you can use it as a one-time password to access your Etsy account. If you didn’t try to sign in to your account or change your email address, reset your password.

Reset your password

Etsy takes precautions necessary to safeguard your information and security codes are just one of the many ways we maintain the integrity of our marketplace. To prevent unauthorized access to your Etsy account, Etsy may periodically send you an email alert with a unique security code to be used as a one-time password. You also receive a security code when you change the email address associated with your Etsy account.

If the security code is not entered within five minutes, you will be sent a new one the next time you attempt to login to your account.

Sellers trying to access their Etsy accounts may receive a pop-up message saying “We just sent you a code”. This means that a security code will be sent to the email linked to your Etsy account, and inputting the code correctly will grant you access to your account again. If you don’t see the email in your inbox, check your spam or junk mail folder.

You also receive a security code when you change the email address associated with your Etsy account.

I received a security code email, but I didn’t try to sign in to Etsy or change my email

If you received these email alerts but didn’t try to sign in or make changes to your account, we recommend that you reset your password:

  • Create a password that is easy to remember but hard for someone else to guess.

  • Use at least eight characters, but the longer the better.

  • Use a mix of lowercase and uppercase letters, numbers, and symbols.

We also recommend that you review your account for any unauthorized changes such as your saved addresses and credit cards, and any unrecognized sign-in activity or purchases.

To view this information:

  1. On Etsy.com, go to Your Account and then Account settings.
  2. Select Addresses or Credit Cards.
  3. Select Security and scroll to see your sign in history.
