Etsy offers many shipping tools to help you set shipping rates in your shop.
- Use shipping profiles if you have multiple listings with the same shipping settings.
- Offer discounted shipping when buyers purchase multiple items.
- Offer buyers the option to pay more for faster shipping.
How much should I charge for shipping?
We’ve updated how shipping price is factored into Etsy search for US domestic listings for physical items only. This means that listings with shipping prices lower than $6 will be prioritized in Etsy search, with some exceptions.
To see which types of listings are exempt from this, and to learn how to edit your domestic listing shipping prices in bulk, view our article on shipping price search visibility.
US sellers can use the Etsy Shipping Calculator to determine rates with USPS or FedEx.
US or Canada sellers can use calculated shipping if you ship with USPS or Canada Post. Enter the weight and dimensions of the item and select the shipping services you want to offer. When a buyer enters their address and chooses a service, Etsy will calculate the shipping and add it to the cost of the order.
If you live in another country or don’t want to use calculated shipping, you can add your own shipping rates to your listings.
You determine your own shipping rates, but the Seller Handbook can help guide you:

What if I sell very bulky or heavy items?
If you sell very heavy items, like furniture, consider mentioning in your listing descriptions that shipping prices vary. Ask buyers to contact you before checking out for a shipping quote. Then, edit the listing to add a shipping rate and reserve it for your buyer.

How do I add shipping rates?
Add shipping rates when creating or editing a listing. Be sure to set a rate for each country where you'd like to ship items. Many buyers only see Etsy listings that ship to their country.
- In the Shipping area, choose Select profile next to Shipping option.
- Choose Create new.
- Enter the country and postal code you’re shipping from.
- Choose the item’s processing time, how long it will take you to prepare and ship the order.
- Choose the shipping service you want to offer.
- For shipping within your country, under What you’ll charge, choose Free shipping or Fixed price if you don’t want to include shipping costs in the item price.
- If you choose Fixed price, enter how much you’ll charge for One item or Additional item. The additional item rate will be applied if a buyer purchases more than one of this item or another item within your shop, and this listing’s shipping is less or equal to the other item.
- If you’d like to sell the item outside your country, set a rate for Everywhere Else or choose Add another location to set your own rates for specific locations.
- Everywhere Else will cover anywhere else you don’t choose your own rate for. You can remove it by selecting the trash can icon if you only want to sell to specific countries.
- Choose Add a shipping upgrade to offer buyers the option to pay more for faster shipping.
- Choose Save as shipping profile to reuse this information on multiple listings.
How do I create a shipping profile?
To reuse the same shipping settings on multiple items, apply a shipping profile. If you edit a shipping profile, it will update on every listing you’ve applied it to.
Save a shipping profile after adding shipping rates to a listing, or use the Shipping profiles page to create and manage your profiles.
- On Etsy.com, select Shop Manager.
- Select Settings.
- Select Shipping settings and be sure you’re on Shipping profiles.
- Select Create profile.
- Add the shipping details
- If you’re entering fixed costs, you can add shipping upgrades. Learn more about shipping upgrades.
- If you're using calculated shipping, item weight and size are required.
- Give your profile a Profile name just for your reference.
- Select Save profile.
- On Etsy.com, select Shop Manager.
- Select Listings.
- Select the checkbox of the listing that needs a shipping profile.
- Select Editing options.
- Select Change shipping profiles from the dropdown menu.
- In the next window, select the Select profile… dropdown menu and choose a shipping profile.
- Select Apply to save your changes.
A listing can only be connected to one shipping profile.
How do I offer free shipping?
Free shipping can be an important tactic to entice buyers to complete a purchase. Learn more about offering free shipping.
If you use calculated shipping, scroll down to the Free shipping section of a shipping profile. Specify whether you'd like to offer domestic or international free shipping by checking the appropriate boxes.
For shipping profiles, select Free shipping from the What you’ll charge dropdown.
What if someone purchases multiple items from my shop?
When you set fixed shipping rates, you can offer discounted shipping for multiple items when you add a rate for One item and an Additional item.
One item price: The cost of shipping the item alone.
Additional item price: The cost of shipping this item when added to an additional item in your shop. This could be either a different listing in your shop or more than one of the same item.
To calculate the shipping rate, Etsy takes the listing with the most expensive One item price and then adds each Additional item price.
For example:
One item | Additional item | |
Item A | $2.00 | $0.50 |
Item B | $1.00 | $0.75 |
- If a buyer purchases Item A and Item B, the total shipping is $2.75. We’ll take Item A’s One item price of $2.00, since it’s most expensive, and Item B’s Additional item price of $0.75.
- If three Item A are purchased, the total shipping would be $3.00. We’ll take the One item cost of $2.00 and add two Additional item costs of $0.50 each.
If you offer calculating shipping
It isn't possible to set discounted rates for listings with calculated shipping. For fixed rate items, the discounted rates are helpful because you can approximate what it would cost to ship multiple items. You don’t need that with calculated shipping, because the precise cost of shipping multiple items is calculated for you.
If some of your listings have fixed rates and others have calculated shipping, we first add the calculated shipping on those listings in the order as normal. For the fixed rate listings, we’ll add your Additional item rates.
How do I add shipping upgrades?
You can offer your buyers shipping upgrades so they can opt for faster shipping at checkout.
If you’re in the US or Canada and offer calculated shipping, shipping upgrades are available based on which shipping services you’ve chosen to offer in your calculated shipping settings.
Otherwise you can enable shipping upgrades as part of setting fixed rates.
- Sign in to Etsy.com and open Shop Manager.
- Select Settings.
- Choose Shipping settings.
- Select the Rates & upgrades tab.
- Choose Enabled under Shipping upgrades.
After enabling shipping upgrades, you can add them to specific listings or shipping profiles.
To add shipping upgrades to a listing:
- Sign in to Etsy.com and open Shop Manager.
- Choose Listings.
- Select Add a listing or open one of your listings.
- Under Shipping, next to Shipping option, select Edit or Create new.
- If you’re in the US or Canada, select I’ll enter fixed prices manually from the dropdown menu in the Shipping costs section at the top.
- Scroll down to Shipping upgrades and select Add a shipping upgrade.
- Fill out the details and be sure to save your changes.
- Sign in to Etsy.com and open Shop Manager.
- Choose Settings.
- Choose Shipping settings and be sure you’re on the Shipping profiles tab.
- Choose Create profile.
- If you’re in the US or Canada, select I’ll enter fixed prices manually from the dropdown menu in the Shipping costs section at the top.
- Scroll down to the Shipping upgrades section and select Add a shipping upgrade.
- Fill out the information you want for the shipping upgrade.
- Choose Save as a shipping profile.
How are buyers charged for shipping upgrades?
The upgrade price is added to the initial item cost you set.
When adding shipping upgrades, you can enter either a Domestic upgrade, an International upgrade, or both.
In an order for multiple items, if a shipping upgrade is available on one item, it will be available for the buyer to select. The cost will apply to every item in the order, even for items whose shipping profiles don't offer the upgrade.
Your location and the shipping address for the buyer determine the cost of shipping for you. The shipping price the buyer sees is based on the settings in your shipping profile.
On Etsy, you can offer fixed-price shipping, or calculated shipping if you purchase USPS or Canada Post shipping labels through Etsy.

Here are the solutions to some common issues with shipping prices, costs, and profiles:
The order contains multiple items
There are a few reasons that an order with multiple items may have incorrect shipping costs:
- The combined dimensions of the items in the order may not fit into your chosen package preferences. Calculated shipping splits the order into multiple packages unless all items can fit into one package, which can increase shipping cost. You can reduce item dimensions so that the correct number fits into your available packages, or find a package that works for this order.
- The items may have different shipping origin postal codes. Check the shipping profiles of all listings in the order and update any with an incorrect origin postal code.
- The order may combine items with calculated shipping and fixed-cost shipping. In this scenario, we determine the shipping cost for all calculated items, and add the “Additional item” costs for all fixed-cost items, regardless of what the costs are. To fix this, you can either use calculated shipping for all listings, or change the “Additional item” price for your fix-cost listings.
- Handling fees are charged per item, so a larger order may have several handling fees being added to the calculated shipping cost. Consider using package fees instead.
The order only contains one item
There are a few reasons that an order with only one item may have incorrect shipping costs:
- You may want to change your shipping rate type. If you use USPS calculated shipping, you have the option to charge the Etsy Shipping Label rate or the USPS retail rate. If you use Etsy’s labels, you likely want to use the Etsy Shipping Label rate. If you go in person to the post office, you’ll likely want USPS retail rates. You can edit your shipping rate type from the Rates & upgrades tab.
- You may have an old origin postal code set for the shipping profile for this item. Check and update the origin postal code in the listing’s calculated shipping profile.
The order has multiple items
If the shipping price for an order with multiple items is too high or too low, it may be because of the shipping price for an additional item.
On a fixed-cost shipping profile, you can set the price of shipping an additional item that uses that same profile. If you'd like to offer a discount for shipping additional items, you'll want to include an "Additional item" shipping cost that's lower than the item's "One item" shipping cost.
If an item(s) in this order has a different shipping profile or no profile, the highest "One item" shipping cost of all the items is charged, then the "Additional item" cost for each additional item in the order is added to that.
To check that all listings use the same shipping profile:
- From your Listings page, select More filters.
- Select the shipping profile you want to see, or listing that don't have a profile associated with them ("No Shipping Profile").
The order has a shipping upgrade
Fixed-cost shipping upgrades add to the base shipping cost, rather than replace it. For example, a base shipping cost of $5 with an upgrade cost of $10 will charge the buyer $15 total for shipping.
Variations don’t have separate shipping costs. If you have a listing that varies greatly in size or weight, the best way to reflect accurate shipping costs is to list each variation in a different listing.
There are a few reasons you may not be able to use calculated shipping:
- Currently, only sellers who use USPS or Canada Post to send orders can use calculated shipping. If you’re in a different country, can’t use these carriers, or ship your items as letter mail or freight, you’ll need to set fixed-cost shipping rates.
- Calculated shipping is not available yet on the Android version of Sell on Etsy. If you use the Sell on Etsy app on an Android phone or tablet, you’ll need to use Etsy.com to set up or edit calculated shipping settings.
- Calculated shipping can’t be used on private, custom listings.
If none of these apply, click I still need help and Etsy Support can look into your issue.
If you received an order from a location you don’t ship to you have a few options. You can choose to:
- Cancel the order
- Request that the buyer pay additional postage through a private listing
- Ship at your expense
Why did I receive an order from a location I don’t ship to?
This can mean that an international shipping destination was enabled by mistake. If a listing or shipping profile shows that it ships to the destination “Everywhere Else”, the listing ships worldwide.
You can remove “Everywhere else” by clicking the trash can icon on its right side in the listing’s Shipping section or on the shipping profile.
This issue is often related to some listings not using a shipping profile. You can check for listings without shipping profiles from your Listings:
- On your Listings page, select More filters.
- In the Shipping profiles filter, select No Shipping Profile.
- Select the checkbox on these listings.
- Select Editing options.
- Select Change shipping profile.
- Choose the shipping profile you want to apply to these listings.
- Select Apply.
Each listing can have only one shipping origin. If you fulfill orders using multiple different distribution centers, your options are separate listings, or separate shops.
There are a few reasons why your processing time or ship-by date might seem incorrect:
- Processing times are in business days (Monday through Friday). Orders on Saturday and Sunday are considered Friday orders, in terms of their processing times.
- Processing times can appear incorrect due to differences in the seller’s, buyer’s, and Etsy’s time zones.
If your shipping deadline is off by a day, these reasons are the most likely causes. If it’s more than a day, it may be a technical issue. Select I still need help and include an example order number to investigate further.
