Why Did Etsy Email Me About Reviewing My Shop Info Soon?

Etsy is sending an email with the subject “Heads up: you’ll need to review your shop info soon” to some sellers. In the coming months these sellers will be asked to provide and review information about their shop, like details on the Legal and tax information page.

This only affects certain sellers depending on where they ship, their sales volume, and what they sell.

Why are you sending this email?

We want you to be on the lookout for an email and alert in your Shop Manager to update and confirm that your Etsy shop information, like your legal and tax information, is complete and correct. This will be an important requirement for many sellers over the next few months.

Governments around the world have been passing laws, such as the INFORM Consumers Act in the US and the Digital Services Act in the EU, in addition to new local tax regulations like DAC7. Learn more about these regulations.

These changes require online marketplaces like Etsy to collect and verify more information from sellers in some circumstances.

Collecting these details will help us keep the Etsy marketplace compliant with global regulations, as well as help us ensure buyers think of Etsy as a safe and trustworthy place to shop.

What do I need to do?

You don't need to take any action until we email you later this year to update and confirm your seller information. Our email will explain the steps you need to take to review, update, and confirm that the information on file is complete and correct.

You can get a head start by checking that your name, address, phone number, and tax ID on your Legal and tax information are complete and up to date.

How do I know if the email is real?

Etsy will email you from noreply@etsy.com. We’ll only ask for you to review and update information within your Shop Manager on Etsy.com. We’ll never ask you to reply to an email with your password.

How can I find more information?

We’ll contact you again when it’s time to confirm your seller info. Learn more about how you’ll confirm your seller info and about the regulations.

At this time, our agents can't provide more info about this. We’ll contact you in the coming months if this applies to you, and we’ll be here to guide you and answer your questions.

In the following months, you’ll get an email and an alert in your Shop Manager Dashboard to provide and “confirm your seller info.” You’ll need to do this within a deadline given in the email and in your Dashboard. The countdown to the deadline begins when you receive notice from Etsy and is a legal mandate that can’t be extended by Etsy Support.

If you’ve only gotten the “Heads Up” email, you don't need to take any action until we contact you again to update and confirm your seller information.

If you’ve been given a deadline to confirm your seller info:

  1. On Etsy.com, go to Shop Manager
  2. Choose Confirm info
  3. We’ll point out any missing info and direct you to the right page to enter it.
  4. Go back to your Dashboard and choose Continue until a notice says Thanks for confirming your info!

If you need to pause, select Do this later. Your progress will be saved. Just make sure to finish confirming by the deadline displayed in your Shop Manager. We’re unable to grant extensions, due to the legal requirement of the deadline. Learn more about confirming your seller info.
