What to know before you add, update, and verify your bank account
If your shop is enrolled in Etsy Payments, you’re required to connect a bank account to your shop where funds from your sales can be deposited.
Any time you add or update your bank account, you’ll need to complete a series of steps to verify your bank account details. This verification process is a security measure that helps confirm the authenticity and ownership of the account. The process may vary based on where your bank is located.
Review this important information before you begin the processes of adding, updating or verifying your bank account details:
- Eligible funds from your Etsy sales will be deposited to the bank account on file for Etsy Payments, per your deposit schedule. Learn how to set up and manage your deposit schedule .
- Requirements for bank account formatting differ depending on the location of your bank. Check the specific banking format for your country.
- Once you’ve added and verified a bank account on Etsy, it’s not possible to update your bank account to another one in a different country, unless you’re a seller in the eurozone. Learn about your options.
- It’s best if your bank account and shop use the same currency. Otherwise, a conversion fee will apply. Learn more about your shop currency.
- The name on your bank account must match the name or business entity you entered when you opened your shop and that is stored on your Legal and tax information page in Shop Manager. Learn more about Etsy’s account transfer policy and updating your legal and taxpayer information .
- If your bank account details can’t be verified, you may be asked to try again using a different verification method. Multiple unsuccessful attempts to verify your bank account details may result in shop suspension. Learn what to do if this happens .
- If you encounter errors while trying to add, update or verify your bank account details, check out our troubleshooting tips before contacting Etsy Support. Most of the time, you can resolve the issue on your own.
- On the How you’ll get paid page of the shop setup process, enter your taxpayer and/or business information carefully before proceeding to adding your bank account. This step cannot be undone. If incorrect information is entered, you’ll need to register a new account and start over.
- If you're setting up your shop as sole proprietor, make sure the first and last name you enter matches the first and last name on the bank account you’re planning to add.
- If you’re setting up your shop as an incorporated business, make sure the name of the legal entity matches the name on the bank account you’re planning to add. Learn more about enrolling as an individual proprietor or business.
- If you have a US bank account, you’ll need to wait until your bank account details are verified by Plaid before you can finish opening your shop.
- If you have a non-US bank account, you’ll be required to verify your bank account after your first sale and within the allotted timeframe you're given (usually 30 days to begin verification, and 60 days to complete) to avoid shop suspension.
- If you just received your first sale or Etsy requires you to verify your bank account details to continue receiving deposits, act promptly—missing the deadline may result in your shop being suspended. Check your email and Shop Manager for specific instructions and deadlines.
- Before you can update or verify your bank account details, you’ll need to provide the account number of the bank account currently on file. This is a required security measure. Contact your bank or credit union if you can’t locate this number or need help identifying it.
- If you change your bank account details entirely, funds from your sales won't be eligible for deposit for 5 business days, in addition to any other deposit delays on your account. The 5-day delay doesn’t apply if you’re only verifying a bank account already on file, and not changing the bank account details entirely. Learn more about reasons you may may not receive a deposit after making a sale with Etsy Payments.
If you update your bank account details, such as changing the account number, routing number, or banking institution, the account must still belong to the same person or business on file for your shop.
When you make this type of change, funds from your sales won’t be eligible for deposit for 5 days, in addition to any other deposit delays on your account. You’ll see these funds in your payment account as part of your pending balance.

If you use a US checking or savings bank account for Etsy Payments, you will add, update and verify your bank account details through Plaid.
Plaid is a third-party service provider that allows you to safely connect your bank account details to Etsy to ensure your deposits go to the right place. Learn about Plaid’s security measures. When you use Plaid to verify your bank account details, you agree to Plaid’s terms, including Plaid’s Privacy Policy.
Plaid offers 2 options for adding, updating or verifying your bank account details: Instant or Manual.
- Instant: Plaid’s Instant option allows you to quickly verify your bank account details by entering your online banking username and password.
- Manual: If you don’t want to use your online banking information to instantly verify, Plaid’s Manual option allows you to verify your bank account details with a test deposit after manually entering your bank account and routing numbers.

On Etsy.com:
- Sign in to Etsy.com.
- Open Shop Manager.
In the Etsy Seller app:
- Open the Etsy Seller app.
- Select More.
Then, from either Etsy.com or the app:

Verify your US bank account using Plaid’s Instant option
Choose Plaid’s Instant option to securely verify your US bank account details faster and help avoid delays in receiving funds from your Etsy sales.
If you choose Plaid’s Instant option, you will be required to input your online banking credentials to verify you are the owner of the bank account.
Most US bank account details will be verified instantly with Plaid’s Instant option. If your bank account is with a smaller bank or credit union, it may take 3–5 business days to verify your details.
If you don’t have an online login for your bank, you’ll need to use Plaid’s Manual option.
- From the Choose how you’ll link your bank account screen, choose Instant.
- Locate your bank or credit union and select its icon, then select Continue to login. If your bank doesn't appear in search, it isn't an approved Plaid partner—scroll to the bottom of the popup and select Connect manually to use the manual option instead.
- Follow the prompts provided by Plaid and your bank or credit union to sign in with your online banking username and password. If you’re on a mobile device and have your bank’s app installed, you may be redirected to your bank's app.
- Once you're signed in, continue following the prompts provided by your bank or credit union to authorize access to your bank account details.
- If Plaid confirms your bank account details, you’ll see a “Success!” screen. Select Continue. A “Verified” badge will appear under Bank details to indicate Plaid has verified your bank account details.
Verify your US bank account using Plaid’s Manual option
If you choose Plaid’s Manual option, you’ll need to manually input your account and routing number and wait to receive a small test deposit of $0.01 to your bank account.
Then, you’ll need to confirm the deposit by entering a 3-letter code found in the deposit’s description on your bank statement in your Payment settings on Etsy. The test deposit can take up to 7 days to appear on your bank statement.
- From the Choose how you’ll link your bank account screen, choose Manual.
- Enter the requested bank account details (account number and routing number) then select Continue. Your routing number must be the electronic routing number, not the wire transfer routing number.
- You may need to identify the account type (checking or savings). Select Continue.
- Check your bank statement for a $0.01 deposit in 3-5 days. Locate the 3-letter code in the deposit description (See image below: Plaid 3-Letter Statement Code Location). Your code is the first 3 letters after the # symbol. If you don't have access to online banking, call your bank directly to identify the 3-letter code.
- Return to Etsy to enter your deposit code:
- If you’re opening your shop: Return to the How you’ll get paid page of the shop setup process and select Enter deposit code in the Your bank information field.
- If your shop is already open: Navigate to Payment Methods Etsy.com or in the Etsy Seller app.
- Select Enter deposit code in the orange notification banner.
- Enter the 3-letter code (without the # symbol), then select Continue .
- If the correct 3-letter code was entered, you’ll see a “Success!” screen. Select Continue. A “Verified” badge will appear under Bank details to indicate Plaid has verified your bank account details.

Shoppers on Etsy can view prices in any of our supported browsing currencies, regardless of what your shop’s currency is set to. Learn more about your shop currency

If your bank account and shop use the same currency, Etsy will verify your bank account details by sending a small deposit to your bank account and asking you to confirm the amount.
- Check your bank statement for a small deposit from Etsy, Adyen, Envoy, or Worldpay in 2-3 business days after initiating the verification process and note the deposit amount. If you don't have access to online banking, call your bank directly to identify the deposit amount.

Verify your bank account with a bank document
If your non-US bank account and shop use different currencies, the small deposit verification method didn’t work, or your bank account details (US or non-US) need to be reviewed by Etsy's support team, you’ll need to upload a single bank document, such as a bank statement, that confirms the bank account details in order for your bank account to be verified.
The bank document must:
- Be printed on your bank’s letterhead
- Be from the last 6 months
- Show your full account details, including the name on the account, IBAN or account number, SWIFT, BIC, or routing information
- Be a single .jpg, .pdf, or .png file over 10KB
If the document you upload is insufficient, Etsy may let you know why via email and a notification in your Shop Manager. You may be able to try verifying your bank account details again by uploading another bank document.
- On the Upload bank document for verification screen in your Payment settings on Etsy.com or the Etsy Seller (select Edit next to Bank details if you need to reopen this screen), upload or drag and drop your file containing the bank document. You can only upload one file. If you need to edit the file uploaded, select Remove then upload the correct file.
- Select Submit for review .
- Etsy will review your bank document within approximately 5-7 business days. If your bank account details are confirmed, a Verified badge will appear under Bank details in your Payment settings.

Troubleshoot common bank account verification issues
If you encounter errors while trying to add, update or verify your bank account details, try these troubleshooting tip for common bank account verification issues before contacting Etsy Support. Most of the time, you can resolve the issue on your own.
Confirming the details of the bank account currently on file is a required security step you must complete before you can update your bank account. Here are some steps you can take to retrieve an old bank account number:
- Contact your bank directly, they can usually provide the number even for closed accounts.
- Try locating an old physical check. Most checks will have the information you need to confirm your bank account details.
If neither option works, you will need to open a new shop on a new Etsy account.
Most errors can be resolved by carefully completing these steps:
- Wait a few minutes and try again—there may be a momentary connection issue that will resolve itself.
- Check your sign-in credentials and ensure you are using the correct ones, especially if your passwords are stored with a password manager.
- Check your bank’s app settings and ensure it allows third-party integrations.
- If you’re connected to a VPN, disable the VPN and try from a different network.
- Confirm there are no other techincal issues technical issues affecting your device or browser.
If the issue persists, contact Etsy Support with the exact error message and steps you've taken.
If you are seeing a “Come back later” message in your Payment settings, wait another 24-48 hours, even if you’ve already received a test deposit. There can be occasional lags in syncing with banking systems. Etsy Support cannot remove this message.
Most errors can be resolved by carefully completing these steps:
- For small deposits: Enter the amount exactly as it appears on your statement, including any decimal or comma separators.
- For 3-letter codes: Do not enter the # symbol; you only need to input the letters.
- If you have attempted to update your bank account more than once, use only the most recent deposit—earlier deposits are void. Allow up to 5 business days after updating your bank account before the new deposit arrives.
If after 5 business days, the small deposit hasn't arrived:
- US sellers: Return to your Payment settings and look for the option to resend. You can resend up to 3 times. If still unresolved, contact Etsy Support.
- Non-US sellers: Return to Payment settings, select Edit next to Bank details, and resend. If resending doesn't work, an option to upload your bank statement will appear — select Upload document and submit for review.
- If you reached the maximum verification attempts or missed the 60-day deadline, your shop will be suspended.
- Upload a bank statement to complete verification if prompted. Etsy reviews these within approximately 5 business days, but it can sometimes take longer.
- Complete verification on Etsy.com, not the Etsy Seller app — verification is not available in the app while your shop is suspended.
