How to prepare your listings for marketing

The most important part of marketing your listings is creating listing that will convert views into sales. Learn how to create listings that convert.

Tips for optimizing your listings:

  • Keep titles short and sweet.
  • Describe your items accurately.
  • Use clear, enticing product photos.
  • Price competitively.
  • Clearly communicate purchasing details like shipping timelines, rates, and options.

Etsy Ads campaigns

You can use Etsy Ads to expand your reach and advertise your products on Etsy, including in Etsy search results, and on Google. Set your budget and choose which listings to advertise, and we’ll do the rest. Using Etsy’s data insights and expertise, we’ll help identify the right places and times to show your ads so you get the most visits for your budget and you’re only charged when shoppers click. 

To set up Etsy Ads:

  1. On Etsy.com, click the Your Account icon, then click Shop Manager.
  2. Click Marketing.
  3. Click Advertising.
  4. Set your daily budget. This should be the maximum amount you're willing to spend to advertise your items per day (based on a monthly average of daily spend). The default minimum daily budget is $1.00. Choose a budget that you’re comfortable investing in ads, because your entire daily budget may be spent each day. Remember that you can change your budget at any time.
  5. Click Start advertising.

Shopping engine ads

Using shopping engine ads is a great way to get your products in front of buyers who aren't searching on Etsy. Shopping engines are third party platforms that allow users to easily find and compare products from various online marketplaces and retailers. 

To make sure your items are eligible to be advertised on shopping engines:

  1. On Etsy.com, click the Your Account icon, then click Shop Manager.
  2. Click Settings.
  3. Click Shopping engine ads.
  4. Select Enabled
  5. Click Save.

Etsy syndicates shop listings to a variety of shopping engines. While the list of engines Etsy works with changes over time, we currently syndicate shop listings to:

  • Google Shopping 
  • Bing 
  • Shopstyle 
  • Polyvore 
  • Facebook

Keep in mind that each of these services has their own policies that determine whether or not your listings are eligible to appear there. In addition, each service may have stricter policies than Etsy does in regards to mature items and prohibited items.

Social media

Using social media is a powerful way to market your shop and reach more shoppers. Etsy’s Social Media tool allows you to quickly share important updates, milestones, or promotions happening in your shop to sites like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Pinterest from your computer or the Sell on Etsy app.

Share any of these types of updates from your shop:

  • Latest listings you’ve added (up to 25 of your most recent listings) 
  • Recent milestones successes, like a shop birthday 
  • Active or upcoming sales and coupons 
  • 5-star reviews 
  • Items you’ve favorited 
  • Shop updates (on the Sell on Etsy app only at this time) 

To link your social media accounts to your shop:

  1. On Etsy.com, click the Your Account icon, then click Shop Manager.
  2. Click Marketing.
  3. Click Social Media.
  4. Click Social Accounts.
  5. Click on the social media platform you want to connect to your shop and follow the login in instructions.

You can also share listings directly from your shop to your social media accounts. This is a great option for sharing new products, special promotions, or marketing your products to potential new customers. 

To share your items from the Listings page:

  1. On Etsy.com, click the Your Account icon, then click Shop Manager.
  2. Click Listings.
  3. Click the gear to the right of a listing.
  4. Click Share.

Coupons and sales

Offering discounts in your shop is a smart marketing tactic that can help bring new shoppers in and retain customer loyalty. Strategic promotions might encourage new customers to buy, entice shoppers to spend more than they usually would, or even clear out old inventory. To set up a sale or coupon:

  1. On Etsy.comclick the Your Account icon, then click Shop Manager.
  2. Click Marketing.
  3. Click Sales and coupons.
  4. Click New special offer.
  5. Specify which type of discount you want to offer:
    • Run a sale: Offer free shipping or taking a percentage off of a listing’s price. Shoppers will see your items on sale across relevant search results and on your shop's homepage.
    • Send offers to interested shoppers: Send a coupon to shoppers who have added your item to their cart but haven’t purchased or recently favorited an item from your shop.
    • Create a coupon: Share a coupon with specific shoppers or on different social channels.

Join an Etsy Team

Etsy teams are groups of members dedicated to supporting each other and getting the word out about Etsy. For instance, there's the Etsy Success team made up of sellers and Etsy staff sharing tips and insights on how to have a successful Etsy shop.

Etsy Local events

Etsy Local connects buyers with Etsy sellers who are participating in fairs and markets in their area. Buyers can shop from sellers in person, supporting both the Etsy community and their own local economies.
