Etsy partners with Pitney Bowes to offer First-Class USPS flats and letters with tracking information included. We’re proud to be the only e-commerce shipping label provider to offer this service from Pitney Bowes.
With Etsy shipping labels, you can send your orders with flats and letters at discounted rates that are cheaper than shipping parcels or using stamps from the Post Office. You can also purchase Shipsurance insurance for these flats and letters.
To purchase a First-Class shipping label for a letter or flat on Etsy, choose either Flat or Letter as the Package type when purchasing a shipping label.
What size flats or letters can I send using this service?
Flats and letters need to be machinable. For USPS, “machinable” means flexible or bendable mail that can be sent through their mail processing machines.
Anything that is sent as a flats or letters that is deemed too rigid may result in price adjustments or delivery issues. These non-qualifying shipments may also not show tracking.
For example: A metal keychain could be both too rigid, and too variable in thickness, to qualify as a Flat or Letter even if the envelope is within the allowed dimensions.

How tracking works for flats and letters
Tracking for First-Class flats and letters is provided through our partnership with Pitney Bowes, not through USPS.
To view tracking on a First-Class flat or letter sent with an Etsy shipping label:
- In Shop Manager, select Orders & Shipping.
- Find the order you’re interested in.
- Choose the tracking number.
The buyer will receive tracking emails, and can access their tracking information through their Purchase on Etsy.com or the Etsy app.
