What is Etsy Payments?

Etsy Payments is the primary way to get paid on Etsy and simplifies payments for both you and your buyers.

Enrolling in Etsy Payments is part of opening a shop.

When your shop is enrolled in Etsy Payments, your buyers can choose from the following payment options:

  • Credit cards
  • Debit/bank cards
  • Etsy gift cards and Etsy credits
  • PayPal*
  • Apple Pay
  • Google Pay
  • Klarna installment payments (Australia, Spain, United Kingdom, United States, Canada)
  • Klarna Invoice (Germany)
  • iDEAL (the Netherlands)
  • Sofort (Austria and Germany)

The buyer can use these payment methods, and your sales funds will be made available in your Etsy Payment account.

What are the requirements to enroll in Etsy Payments?

Etsy Payments is available to sellers in these countries.

To enroll in Etsy Payments, you must have:

  • A residential address and a valid bank account in an eligible country. We’re unable to send sale funds to a PayPal account or to a credit or debit card.
  • A valid credit, debit or reloadable prepaid card, unless you are in Austria, Germany, or the Netherlands.

You can add a prepaid card to your account if you already have a credit or debit card. A non-reloadable prepaid card can’t be your only or primary payment card, but you can always pay your balance manually with a non-reloadable prepaid card.

Choosing Individual or Business

For legal and tax purposes, you’ll select whether you’re using Etsy Payments as an individual or a business.

Select Individual if you sell as an individual person and don’t represent an official business entity or use a taxpayer ID number for a business.

Select Business if you have registered and set up a legal entity with a taxpayer ID number for your business. The Business option is not currently available to sellers in Vietnam.

Verifying Identity

We need to verify your identity to help protect both you and the overall safety of the marketplace. If we can’t verify your identity at the time you enroll, based on the information you gave us, you’ll be asked to provide additional information to confirm your identity. If you don’t provide Etsy with this information, Etsy may refuse you access to Etsy until you do so.

Verifying your bank account

To help ensure deposits to your bank account go to the right place, you’ll need to verify your bank account. How this works depends on your country.

If your bank account is located in the US, you’ll use a third party service provided by Plaid to verify.

If you're required to use Payoneer, you’ll verify your bank account while setting up Payoneer.

Otherwise, if your bank account is located outside the US, you’ll verify your bank account with test deposits. If your shop was opened after March 1, 2022, you can add and verify your bank account after your first sale.

What are the fees and deposit minimums for Etsy Payments?

Orders paid for through Etsy Payments are subject to payment processing fees, which is in addition to other Etsy fees. These fees vary by country. Find the fee for your country.

For some Etsy Payments countries, there is a minimum deposit amount, along with a fee threshold and a deposit fee:

  • Deposit Minimum: Your funds available for deposit must be above the deposit minimum to be able to receive the funds in your bank account.
  • Fee Threshold: If your deposit is above the deposit minimum but below the fee threshold, you will be charged a deposit fee. If your deposit exceeds the fee threshold, you won’t be charged a deposit fee.
  • Deposit Fee: This  fee is charged if your deposit is below the fee threshold.Your Available for deposit total will show your available sales minus the deposit fee. This fee is deducted from your Payment account at the time of the deposit and is subject to VAT, where applicable.

Sellers who use Payoneer are subject to Payoneer’s withdrawal minimums and fees. Learn about Payoneer’s fees and withdrawals to your bank.

How Etsy Payments works with PayPal

When you’re enrolled in Etsy Payments, and PayPal is available in your country, buyers who purchase items from your shop can pay using PayPal. Your sales funds will go into your Payment account on Etsy instead of appearing in your PayPal account. This way you're not managing your money in multiple places and you won't pay a separate PayPal fee. Learn about the fees charged for sales processed through Etsy Payments in the Etsy Payments Policy and the Fees & Payments Policy.

When eligible, Etsy's Seller Protection covers PayPal transactions processed through Etsy Payments. If a buyer pays with PayPal through Etsy Payments and files a case on Etsy, an Etsy employee can mediate. Learn more about resolving a case on Etsy.

Since it is part of Etsy Payments, if a buyer chooses to file a dispute through PayPal, Etsy will work on your behalf to resolve the dispute. As the seller, you won’t directly participate. This is similar to how we manage credit card chargebacks with Etsy Payments.

For sellers located in Türkiye

As PayPal does not operate in Türkiye, PayPal is not available to Etsy Payments sellers located in Türkiye. This means that sellers located in Türkiye cannot accept PayPal in their shops. If you offer PayPal in your shop, PayPal will be removed from your Etsy account after you sign up for Etsy Payments.

For sellers located in Israel

PayPal is not available to Etsy sellers located in Israel and enrolled in Etsy Payments.

If you offer PayPal in your shop and are located in Israel, PayPal will be removed after you sign up for Etsy Payments. However, Etsy Payments gives your buyers more ways to pay, including credit cards, Etsy gift cards, and more. If you have any questions, please contact Etsy Support.
